President attends business forum, wraps up Denmark visit

President Truong Tan Sang hailed Danish businesses’ presence and contributions to Vietnam.

President Truong Tan Sang spoke highly of Danish enterprises’ presenceand contributions to Vietnam’s socio-economic cooperation whenaddressing the Vietnam-Denmark Business Forum in Copenhagen on September20.

He confirmed Vietnam’s policy of incessantlyimproving the investment environment for foreign players to facilitatetheir long-term, effective and sustainable operation in the country.

The President stated that Denmark is becoming a leading economicpartner of Vietnam in the northern Europe and the EU, and predicted arise in bilateral trade and investment following the two sides’ signingof the Partnership Cooperation Agreement and on-going negotiations on aFree Trade Agreement.

The establishment ofstrategic partnership in climate change, energy, environment and greengrowth with Denmark vividly manifests Vietnam’s efforts in responding toglobal challenges, building a greener and cleaner economy, and creatingbig opportunities for both countries’ businesses to seize, according tothe President.

He advised Danish businesses to take advantage of chances they are offered to secure a firm foothold in Vietnam’s economy.

The President stressed that Denmark’s expertise in wind and renewableenergy, sea transport, seaport construction, pharmaceutical industry,machinery and food production are urgently needed by Vietnam and wishedfor cooperation in these areas in the future.

Hereiterated Vietnam welcomes Danish enterprises and facilitates theirproductive operation and showed his delight seeing bilateral economicties in recent years.

Two-way trade between the two countriesrose to around 470 million USD in 2012 from nearly 320 million USD in2008, or a 47 percent increase.

Denmark now has 106investment projects worth 674 million USD, ranking 25 th out of 100countries and territories investing in Vietnam. The projects are mainlyengaged in processing technology, manufacture, transport, warehouse andretails and wholesales.

Earlier, President Sang andhis entourage met with Copenhagen Lord Mayor Frank Jensen where they allwitnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on planning,infrastructure building and green growth between the two countries’capital cities.

The same day, Queen Margethe II hosted afarewell ceremony for President Truong Tan Sang to mark the ending ofthe guest’s state visit to Denmark from September 18-20.-VNA
