Hanoi (VNA) - President TranDai Quang talked on the phone with US President Donald Trump on February 14.

The talks took place in the context that therelationship between the two countries continues to develop substantively andeffectively on the basis of respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty,territorial integrity and political institutions, as well as for the benefitsof the two countries’ people and for peace, stability, cooperation and developmentin the region and the world.

President Donald Trump extended his greetings to the Vietnamese leaders andpeople on the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year. He expressed hisimpressions on the achievements the Vietnamese people have made over the pastyear.

He also thanked the Vietnamese leaders and people for their warm welcome forhim and the high-ranking US delegation during his State visit to Vietnam and participationin the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in November last year.

He affirmed that the US attaches great importance to its relations with Vietnamand the country’s active role in the region and will continue cooperating withVietnam in promoting the bilateral Comprehensive Partnership in the comingtime.

President Tran Dai Quang congratulated the US Government and people on their achievementsmade during the first year of office of President Donald Trump, asserting thatthe US President’s State visit to Vietnam and his attendance in the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting marked a significant milestone, creating astrong driving force for the effective and stable development of the Vietnam-USComprehensive Partnership.

He emphasised that Vietnam treasures the friendship and cooperation with the USand will actively work with the country to create new and practical progressesfor the bilateral relations in the future.

President Tran Dai Quang and President Donald Trump exchanged views on concretemeasures to strengthen the Vietnam-US relationship, focusing on implementingthe agreements reached by the two countries’ high-ranking leaders.

They agreed to continue prioritising the promotion of economic and traderelations, considering them a focus of and driving force for bilateral ties.

The two leaders also consented to boost other bilateral cooperation areas suchas addressing was consequences, including the implementation of a dioxinremediation project in Bien Hoa airport.

Regarding the regional and international situation, the Presidents reaffirmedboth sides’ positions on the East Sea issue and agreed to maintain high-levelexchanges, contacts and meetings to promote bilateral relations for the benefitsof the two countries’ people, thus contributing to consolidating peace,stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.-VNA
