Vientiane (VNA) - Politburo member Nguyen Xuan Thang, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), met with Lao Vice President Bounthong Chitmany in Vientiane on December 6 as part of his visit to Laos. Thang, who is also Chairman of the Central Theory Council, rejoiced at marked achievements Laos has recorded in both external and internal affairs over the past time, saying he hoped that under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP), the Lao people will reap greater successes.
He affirmed that Vietnam always comprehensively backs the Lao cause of reform and development, and expressed his delight at the intensive and extensive development of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
Thang briefed Bounthong on the outcomes of his meetings with Party General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh, and his talks with Director of the Lao National Academy of Politics and Public Administration (LNA) Phouvong Unkhamxen, especially those regarding the research on theory and reality and the protection of the Party’s ideological foundation in the present regional and world situation.
HCMA will closely coordinate with LNA and the LPRP Central Committee’s Theoretical Council to effectively materialise high-level agreements reached by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the LPRP and the two countries, he promised.
Bounthong, who is also a Politburo member and permanent member of the LPRP Central Committee's Secretariat, congratulated Vietnam on its achievements over the past time, particularly those in Party building and socio-economic development, considering them valuable lessons for Laos in the process of reform, national defence and construction.
He also thanked Vietnam for its support to Laos in the past struggle for national liberation as well as the present cause of national construction and development, covering personnel development.
The Vice President spoke highly of cooperation between the two academies and urged them to step up the exchange of information, theoretical research and reality review, particularly in emerging issues, and improve the efficiency of personnel training.
The Lao leader pledged to try his best together with Vietnam to promote the special solidarity between the two nations.
The same day, Thang had a working session with Khamphan Pheuyavong, Secretary of the LPRP Central Committee and head of its Commission for Propaganda and Training, and Chairman of the LPRP Central Committee’s Theoretical Council./.
