President Putin's Vietnam visit to deepen bilateral ties: Russian expert

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Vietnam from June 19 to 20 at the invitation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will lay a foundation and legal basis for the bilateral relations in the new development phase, a Russian political analyst has said.

Moscow (VNA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Vietnam from June 19 to 20 at the invitation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will lay a foundation and legal basis for the bilateral relations in the new development phase, a Russian political analyst has said.

In his writing posted on The Independent, a Russia prestigious international news and political analysis site, Grigory Trofimchuk stated that the visit is of great significance as the two sides are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Treaty on the Principles of the Friendly Relations (June 16)

They have adhered to consistent principles on their extensive cooperation and partnership over years, he said, highlighting the bilateral ties have stood the test of time, with Vietnam being a friendly partner of Russia.

Touching on the economic-trade relations, he said the free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) signed in 2015 has been a trustworthy guarantee for the principle of free cooperation between countries.

A comprehensive strategic partner of Russia, Vietnam has an important role to play in the country’s “Turn to the East” policy while the closer coordination between the two nations will contribute to the stable development in Southeast Asia – a vital international economic region, the analyst stressed.

He said the two sides boast huge potential to develop the economic, trade and investment ties, adding cultural exchange and education cooperation have been expanded, and collaboration at the local level growing dynamically with the Vietnamese community in Russia serving as a bridge.

He affirmed that since the two nations will celebrate their 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relations (1950-2025), the visit by President Putin will help consolidate motives to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership./.
