President Truong Tan Sang received Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi in Hanoi on October 27, who is in Vietnam to attend the 7th meeting of the Vietnam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation.
The President spoke highly of the topics discussed and outcomes reached in the meeting, and proposed the two sides focus on key issues and play active roles in planning and coordinating cooperation efforts as part of the agreements reached and common perception of the two countries’ senior leaders.
The State leader stressed the importance of enhancing the two sides’ political trust in maintaining the relations between the two Parties and countries.
The two sides should guide the implementation of high-level agreements, especially the action programme on implementing the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, while respecting and valuing their respective legitimate benefits, he said.
He suggested the two sides promptly establish working groups on infrastructure and monetary cooperation in order to boost cooperation projects, and promote economic and trade connection between Vietnam and China in a move towards balance, quality and effectiveness.
At the reception, the President emphasised the importance of the sea issue for each country as well as the two countries’ relations, saying that this is not only the issue between the two Parties and countries, but also between the people of Vietnam and China.
On his part, Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi affirmed that the Party and State of China attach importance to its relationship with Vietnam and wish to develop the neighbouring friendship and comprehensive cooperation further.
He said the satisfactory settlement of differences at sea is in the fundamental interest of the two countries’ people and contributes to stability and development in the region.
He said outcomes reached during the Vietnam visit will contribute to developing the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in a healthy and sustainable manner.-VNA
