President Sang receives newly-appointed ambassadors

President Truong Tan Sang has vowed all possible support for the newly-accredited Cuban, Canadian, Indian, Japanese, Bulgarian and Ugandan ambassadors to Vietnam to fulfill their tasks, saying that he believes they will help bolster links between Vietnam and the respective nations.

He made the pledge while receiving them in Hanoi on October 15.

President Sang said as an active member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Vietnam is ready to make it easier for their countries to expand ties and enter the Southeast Asian markets.

Cuban Ambassador Herminio Lospez Diaz expressed his deep condolences over the passing of General Vo Nguyen Giap, saying that the Cuban people deeply admire and respect him.

Canadian Ambassador David Joseph Devine said the 40-year-old diplomatic ties lay an important foundation for his country to further develop trustworthy and long-term cooperation with Vietnam. With two billion USD in two-way trade, both nations boast a lot of potential in their work together.

Underscoring Vietnam’s importance in India’s Look East policy, Ambassador Preeti Saran expressed desire to expand bilateral ties in education, tourism, trade, investment, oil and gas surveying and exploration, and defence-security.

Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Fukada affirmed that Japan will continue to provide Vietnam with official development assistance and support its economic restructuring process.

Meanwhile, Bulgarian Ambassador Evgueni Stefanov Stoytchev stressed Vietnam’s important position as an ASEAN member and that of Bulgaria as an EU member, regarding them as an opportunity for both sides to deeply integrate into the regions.

As Uganda treasures ties with Vietnam in its foreign policy, Ambassador Wagidoso Madibo emphasised that his country is willing to back Vietnam’s bid for a seat at the United Nations Council on Human Rights.-VNA
