President Tran Dai Quang visits Japan’s Gunma prefecture

Right after his arrival in Japan on May 29 afternoon, President Tran Dai Quang and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam visited Gunma prefecture where about 7,000 Vietnamese people are living, studying and working.

Tokyo (VNA) – Right after his arrival in Japan on May 29afternoon, President Tran Dai Quang and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnamvisited Gunma prefecture where about 7,000 Vietnamese people are living,studying and working.  

At a reception for Gunma prefecture’s Governor Masaaki Osawa, PresidentQuang appreciated Osawa’s sentiments towards Vietnam when selecting Vietnam asthe first country to visit after he was re-elected as Governor of Gunma in2015.

He called on Gunma to enhance cooperation with Vietnamese localities inorder to effectively utilise potential of both sides by increasing people-to-peopleexchanges and stepping up collaboration in tourism and investment, especiallyin high-tech agriculture, farm produce processing and preserving industry, and manufacturingand supporting industries.

The President also suggested Gunma prefecture receive more Vietnamesetrainees and workers in the fields of agriculture and construction.

Osawa briefed President Quang on the results of cooperation betweenGunma and Vietnam over the recent past, saying that 12 businesses from theprefecture have invested in Vietnam. Gunma is also assisting nearly 40enterprises which plan to invest in the country in the time to come, he added.

Gunma prefecture wants to receive more highly-skilled Vietnamese workersand trainees, the governor said.

At the reception, many local firms expressed their wish to increaseeducational cooperation with Vietnam, particularly with Vietnameseuniversities, to create qualified human resources, thus meeting cooperationneeds in economy, trade and investment between Vietnamese and Japaneselocalities.

Later on the same day, President Quang visited Koganei Seiki Co., whichis specialising in manufacturing aircraft and formula one cars. There are 39Vietnamese out of 240 engineers working in the company.

President Quang and his spouse have been on a State visit to Japan until June 2, at the invitation ofthe State of Japan.

Anofficial welcome ceremony for the Vietnamese leader is scheduled to take placeon May 30 morning at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo under the chair of EmperorAkihito.

Emperor Akihitoand Empress Michiko are scheduled to meet with and hold a state banquet inhonour of President Quang and his spouse.

During the visit,President Quang will also hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.-VNA
