Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on July 25 met with President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and President of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen, who is in Hanoi to pay last respects to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
At the meeting, PM Chinh expressed his sincere thanks to President Hun Sen and the high-ranking Cambodian delegation, saying that the Party, State and people of Vietnam are very moved when receiving the deep condolences from the King, the CPP, the Senate, the National Assembly, the Government, agencies and organisations of Cambodia over the passing of the Party leader.
“This is a great encouragement for the Vietnamese people, demonstrating the sincere and close affection of Cambodia, including President Hun Sen, towards late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong,” he affirmed.
Hun Sen said that the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a great loss to the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Government and people of Vietnam as well as for the leaders and people of Cambodia.
Under the leadership of the General Secretary, the Vietnam - Cambodia friendship has been continuously strengthened and developed, bringing great benefits to the two countries’ people, he noted.
In order to promote cooperation in the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue consolidating and strengthening the attachment and political trust between the two Parties and States, and coordinate well to implement the joint declarations, cooperation treaties and agreements; expand delegation exchanges and contacts between senior leaders of the two Parties and countries; and promote existing cooperation mechanisms as well as collaboration and exchanges between ministries, agencies and localities.
They consented to innovate and diversify forms of information and education so that people, especially the young generation, of the two countries can understand the good traditional relations between Vietnam and Cambodia, and fight against distortive allegations by hostile forces to divide the relations between the two countries.
Hun Sen affirmed that the Party, State and people of Cambodia will continue to cultivate the good relations with their Vietnamese counterparts on the basis of the valuable legacies of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Emphasising that security and defence cooperation is always a pillar in the two countries' relationship, PM Chinh asserted that Vietnam always supports Cambodia's peaceful, stable and prosperous development and considers it the interest of Vietnam itself.
The two sides reaffirmed the principle of not allowing any hostile force to use one country's territory to sabotage the other; and agreed to proactively coordinate to avoid being passive or surprised in all situations, build a peaceful, stable and sustainable Vietnam-Cambodia border line, manage well and promote the resolution of issues related to land border demarcation and marker planting, and strengthen coordination between law enforcement forces on the ground and at sea, promptly and satisfactorily handling arising problems.
The two sides also consented to strengthen connections between the two economies, promote border trade and cooperate in economic development in border areas, and create more favourable conditions for investment and business activities of enterprises from both countries.
The Vietnamese PM expressed his hope that President Hun Sen will direct the authorities to continue creating conditions for Cambodians of Vietnamese origin, especially in issues related to legal documents.
On this occasion, the two sides agreed to increase exchanges between the young generation of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and expand participants in a training programme for young leaders in border provinces in the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area./.
