Da Nang, (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited and extended New Year wishes to the armed forces and residents in the central city of Da Nang on February 16, or the first day of the Year of the Dog.
At the headquarters of the city’s Border Guard Command, the PM stressed the strategic importance of Da Nang not only in resistance wars for national independence but also in defending the country’s air and sea territories in peace time.
He urged the border guard force in particular and the armed forces in general in Da Nang to stay alert and keep up combat readiness to ensure political stability, security and social order in the city.
PM Phuc later called at the office of the Party Committee of Hai Chau district, and went around the district’s Thuan Phuoc ward to talk to local officials and residents.
On the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet), national leaders are paying visits to extend New Year wishes to the armed forces and residents across the country. This is part of the Vietnamese Tet tradition.
Da Nang is the third largest city in Vietnam behind capital Hanoi and business hub Ho Chi Minh City.- VNA
