Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has affirmed that Vietnam wants to work together with Germany to further foster the two countries’ strategic partnership in order to bring in practical benefits for the two sides.

At a reception for visiting Mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowereit in Hanoi on October 28, PM Dung spoke highly of the outcomes of the working session between the Mayor and Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao.

The Vietnamese Government leader urged the two sides to coordinate closely in the implementation of signed agreements, as well as boost cooperation in trade, investment, education and training between Vietnam and Germany in general and between Vietnam and Berlin in particular.

He thanked the German Government for its official development assistance (ODA) worth 1.5 billion USD for Vietnam, saying that Vietnam has used this fund effectively and wants to continue receiving the source.

PM Dung also expressed his hope that the German Government continues to help the Vietnamese community integrate well into the country and further contribute to the development of Germany and the two countries’ friendship as well.

Mayor Wowereit said that after two years of establishing the strategic partnership, the two countries have actively implemented many important agreements, including the establishment of the German House and the Vietnam-Germany University and a metro line project in Ho Chi Minh City.

He said that many German businesses and managers have come to Vietnam with him this time to intensify ties with the Vietnamese side.

Germany will organise the 14th Asia-Pacific Conference on German Business in Ho Chi Minh City next year, he added.

During the meeting, the two sides also shared experience in transferring to a market-orientated economy as well as ways to overcome challenges in this process.-VNA
