A number of localities nationwide have granted an amnesty for prisoners on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification Day (April 30).

Channel 7 Prison in southern Kien Giang province granted an amnesty for 300 prisoners, of whom 55 were released early thanks to their redemption progress.

The released prisoners were also provided with clothes and household utensils to help them reintegrate into the community.

On this occasion, 465 prisoners in the southern province of Tay Ninh were also granted clemency, of whom 91 were freed ahead of their release date.

The clemency not only reflects the Government’s leniency policy, but also encourages prisoners to reform themselves so that they can return to society sooner. -VNA
