President Truong Tan Sang has praised the procuracy sector for its important contributions to protecting justice as well as the legitimate rights of the State and people.
The President, who is also head of the Central Steering Committee on Judicial Reform, made the appraisal at a conference held by the Supreme People’s Procuracy in Hanoi on January 16.
He said over the past time, the sector has helped maintain political security, social order and safety, deserving the confidence of the Party, State and population.
The procuracy sector has placed importance on its responsibility for prosecuting process and made all-out efforts to hasten the settlement of cases, not letting criminals slip through the net and ensuring punishment, the leader said.
Prosecutors’ skills have been improved at courts, the leader said, noting that many serious cases were handled in a strict and clear manner in compliance with the law, winning the public’s support.
Asking the sector to focus on well exercising its prosecution rights, President Sang suggested procuracy institutes at all levels enhance their responsibility in investigations while tightening regulations on examining informants’ reports and people’s denunciations.
They were required to closely partner with investigation agencies, detect and handle violations in investigation, prosecution, making judgment and their execution in a timely and strict manner.
Any action that abuses power and violates the democratic rights of citizens should be stopped, he stressed.
He asked the sector to promptly build and complete institutions relevant to the organisation and operation of the entire sector based on the amended Constitution.
It is necessary to speed up the building of the revised Law on the Organisation of the People’s Procuracy and the amended Penal Code in the spirit of the Constitution, he said.-VNA
