A project targeting the development of a social welfare system in Vietnam that is of high quality and operational efficiency through perfecting legal documents and law on social insurance was presented in Hanoi on June 17.

Jointly implemented by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the project aims to perfect the draft amended Law on Social Insurance, which has been approved by the Government and will be submitted to the National Assembly for discussion at its sixth session before the end of 2013.

As a result, the MoLISA has established a steering committee to direct the implementation of the project between 2013 and 2015 at a total cost of 800,000 USD from official development assistance (ODA). An estimated 230,000 USD will be disbursed for the project this year.

The project means to improve the qualification of social partners and units engaging in its activities, and enhance the joint capacity of the National Assembly and social partners in order to improve the social welfare legal framework.-VNA
