The northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang is implementing a project to improve the sustainable livelihood of poor and ethnic minority households with the support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

The project, which will be carried out in six poor districts until 2016, focuses on developing initiatives and value chains suitable to poor residents as well as drawing and implementing communal-level market-oriented socio-economic development plans, said Giang Tuan Anh, deputy director of the Project’s Coordinating Committee.

It aims to improve the farmers’ living standards, encourage them to get involved in sustainable economic activities and call on the private economic components to increase investment in agriculture, he added.

The project plays an important role in boosting agricultural development in Tuyen Quang, a disadvantaged mountainous locality with a high poverty rate of 24 percent, through the application of scientific-technological advances in production and the establishment of concentrated farming areas.-VNA
