Vietnam National Red Cross (VNRC) in coordination with its branch in the southern province of Kien Giang held a conference to start the implementation of two disaster risk mitigation projects in the Mekong Delta region on December 7.

One of the projects, sponsored by the German Development Agency, will be carried out in Kien Giang, An Giang and Bac Lieu provinces in the next five months at a total cost of 205,000 Euro.

Meanwhile, the Climate Smart Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (Climate Smart CBDRR) project will benefit 15 communes in An Giang and Kien Giang provinces. The project, sponsored by Australian Red Cross, is scheduled to take place in 33 months at a cost of 22 billion VND (more than one million USD).

Both projects will enhance knowledge and skills in the communities of the aforementioned provinces to plan and respond to weather related disasters and climate change impacts.

Earlier, VNRC carried out a similar project costing more than 7 billion VND in Ca Mau./.VNA
