Quang Binh (VNA) – The People’s Committee of thecentral province of Quang Binh has awarded certificates of merit to three unitsand 10 individuals for their role in smashing two cases involving illegal transportof drug.

In April this year, Quang Binh’s border guard force, incoordination with the security forces of Laos’ Khammoune province, stopped threeLao nationals who were transporting 24,000 synthetic drug pills by motorbike.They said they intended to bring the drug to Vietnam for sale.

More recently, on June 15, authorised forces of Quang Binhand Khammoune provinces caught a Lao national at Cha Lo international bordergate, who was carrying 47,727 synthetic drug pills from Laos to Vietnam.

At the award presentation ceremony on June 19, Chairman ofthe Quang Binh People’s Committee Nguyen Huu Hoaik urged the border guard forceto continue cooperate with Lao counterparts to timely detect and foil theillegal transport and trade of drug, thus maintaining peace and order in theVietnam-Laos border area.

According to the Vietnam National Committee for Prevention and Controlof AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution, there are about 2,300 drug hotspots across thecountry.

 Reports from localities showedthat as of November 15, 2017, the number of documented drug addicts was 22,582,up 11,831 people from 2016. Between 2017 and March 2018, 13 ha of opium poppyplantation were discovered and destroyed.

 In 2017, police investigated22,346 drug cases, arrested 34,494 suspects, and seized 906.7 kg of heroin and979,487 synthetic drug pills, among other drugs.-VNA

Ho Chi Minh City steps up law enforcement on fishing vessel monitoring system

Ho Chi Minh City has 4,449 fishing vessels, of them 4,301 equipped with VMS devices, making up 96.67%. Between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025, authorities found 1,729 cases of vessels losing VMS connection for six hours or more, issuing fines in 196 cases totalling nearly 6.6 billion VND (about 252,000 USD)
