The Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) signed a programme in Hanoi on April 6 to forge partnerships in humanitarian activities with nine agencies and businesses for the 2013–2018 period.
The nine partners include Vietnam Television (VTV), Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VTC), Latsata Joint Stock Company, State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, Border Guard High Command, military-run telecoms company Viettel, and the Republic of Korea-invested Miwon Vietnam.
During the period, the partners will coordinate with the VRC to organise activities to raise public awareness of humanitarian values and mobilise resources to help those living in difficulties. They will also encourage their staff to engage in humanitarian activities.
This year, they will focus on a programme to provide 2,900 breeding cows worth 30 billion VND (1.4 million USD) to farmers in 62 poor districts, while raising funds to ensure underprivileged people and Agent Orange victims nationwide have a sufficient lunar New Year festival in 2014.
Addressing the event, President Truong Tan Sang said the increased coordination between VRC and ministries, departments and benefactors at home and abroad, along with the Vietnamese Party, State and people will help bring better material and spiritual lives to the needy.
At the event, SBV registered a donation of 6 billion VND (300,000 USD) to the cow bank project and the VRC’s humanitarian fund. The Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group and Viettel Corporation donated 3.6 billion VND (170,000 USD) and 3.5 billion VND (160,000 USD) respectively.-VNA
