A workshop on the Vietnam Competitiveness Report 2010 will be held in Hanoi on November 30.
The information was released at a press conference jointly held by the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Singapore-based Asian Competitiveness Institute (ACI), in Hanoi on November 23.
Speaking at the event, CIEM Deputy Director Nguyen Dinh Cung said that the Vietnam Competitiveness Report 2010 is the first national report which aims to provide a deep and comprehensive assessment on Vietnam’s competitiveness in various fields and propose an overall action programme to improve competitiveness and maintain the economy’s sustainable growth.
Improving national competitiveness is considered one of the key objectives of the Vietnamese government and business community in their socio-economic development goals in the next 10 years (2011-2020), he added.
The report has been compiled by a group of CIEM and ACI experts under the instruction of Prof. Michael Potter, a world expert in competitiveness.
To date, several research projects on Vietnam’s competitiveness have been announced, including an annual Global Competitiveness Report by the World Economic Forum (WEF), a report on ASEAN countries’ competitiveness and a provincial competitiveness index (PCI) by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
However, Vietnam still lacks a deep and comprehensive national-level report on competitiveness, said experts.
Prof. Potter will share the main results of the report and discuss the improvement of Vietnam’s competitiveness with workshop participants.
The delegates will have a chance to join a round-table discussion with policymakers, business leaders and experts from Vietnam and the world, on measures to raise national competitiveness./.
