Republic of Korea through Vietnamese artists’ eye

Hanoi (VNA) – Winners of a painting competition on depicting the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s culture and people were awarded prizes at a ceremony in Hanoi on December 7.

Targeting artists under 35, the competition was organised by the Korean Cultural Centre in Vietnam for the first time and drew the participant of 74 painters after two months. The jury, consisting of both Vietnamese and RoK artists, selected 28 outstanding pictures for an exhibition, seven of which won prizes.

Nguyen Cong Hoai, born in 1984 from southern Dong Nai province, came first with his picture titled “A Korean portrait”. The second prize was presented to “Friend” by Duong Ngoc Ha (1987) from northern Phu Tho province while “Dream” by Ngo Van Sac (1980) from Hanoi won the third prize.

The winners of the first and second prizes are awarded with a week in the RoK. The first prize winner will also receive full sponsorship from the Korean Cultural Centre in Vietnam for an exhibition next year. The third prize is worth 300 USD in cash.

Addressing the award ceremony, the RoK’s Ambassador to Vietnam Jun Dae Joo underscored the contest as a creative cultural exchange, which contributes to boosting mutual understanding between the two peoples.

Park Nark Jong, Head of the Korean Cultural Centre in Vietnam, said he was delighted by Vietnamese artists’ warm feeling and vivid imagination toward his home country.-VNA
