Marksman Hoang Xuan Vinh (centre) (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has achieved the best ever Olympic Games ranking at the Rio Olympics which closed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on August 22 morning (Hanoi time).
With one gold and one silver, both won by marksman Hoang Xuan Vinh, the country finished at 48th in the medal tally.
Besides Vietnam, only three other countries in Southeast Asia won gold medals at the Games, which are Thailand (two golds, two silvers and two bronzes), Indonesia (one gold and two silvers) and Singapore (one gold). Malaysia brought home four silvers and one bronze and the Philippines got only one silver medal.
The US topped the medal tally with 46 golds, 37 silvers and 38 bronzes.
The host country, Brazil, stood at the 13th place.
