Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in has called for efforts to diversify and upgrade ties with the Associaiton of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Moon made the statement during the ASEAN-RoK Summit in the Philippines’ capital city of Manila on November 13. He reiterated that ASEAN is a key partner in his efforts to expand the RoK’s external relations
Moon introduced his vision of the RoK-ASEAN community, proposing to build a people-oriented community of peace and prosperity community.
Earlier, at the ASEAN Investment Business Summit (ABIS) in Manila, President Moon said the RoK government will consider simplifying its visa issuance process for visitors from the ASEAN countries, he said, vowing efforts to build a joint community for peace.
He named the transportation, energy, water management, and information technology industries as four sectors with the greatest potential for cooperation between the two sides.
To support increased cooperation with the ASEAN countries, the RoK will double its support fund to 14 million USD per year from now to 2019, he added.-VNA
