The Republic of Korea (RoK) will grant 2.24 billion KRW (roughly 1.8 million USD) worth of goods in relief aid to flood victims in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Under the relief aid plan, which was approved by the RoK Ministry of Unification on September 14, the flood victims, mostly in the cities of Sinuiju and Keasong, will receive rice, wheat flour and noodles, and blankets will be allocated later. The first 400 tonnes of wheat flour is scheduled to arrive in the RoK on September 21.

Earlier, the RoK Red Cross Association on September 13 said the country would deliver 10 billion KRW worth of goods, including 5,000 tonnes of rice, 10,000 tonnes of cement and three million packets of noodles.

The move is taking place in the context where the two countries are planning to carry out working-level negotiations this weekend to discuss the reunion for families who were separated during the 1950-1953 war./.
