Seoul (VNA) - President Moon Jae-in of the Republic of Korea and his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo discussed measures to enhance the two countries’ special strategic partnership during their meeting in Seoul on September 10.
Indonesia is an important partner in the RoK’s New Southern Policy, which aims at expanding economic ties with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
The two leaders evaluated the outcome of cooperation between the two countries in the infrastructure sector, including light rail and hydroelectric power generation, and key industrial sectors such as the steel and petrochemical industries.
They agreed to expand their cooperation to railways, real estate development and smart transportation systems, while promoting practical cooperation for joint prosperity in the automobile, information-communication and agricultural sectors.
At the meeting, President Moon congratulated Indonesia on its successful hosting of the recent Asian Games (ASIAD) 2018, and thanked President Widodo for inviting leaders of both Koreas to attend the ASIAD opening ceremony as well as for his efforts for peace on the Korean peninsula.
He also thanked the government and people of Indonesia for their support for the inter-Korean sport delegations to compete in ASIAD 2018.
The RoK President briefed his guest on the Korean peninsula’s situation while calling for Indonesia’s support and cooperation for efforts to achieve denuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula.
President Widodo arrived in Seoul on September 9 on a three-day visit that reciprocated President Moon's visit to his country in November 2017. This is Widodo’s second visit to the RoK following the first in May 2016.-VNA
