Speaker of the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s National Assembly (NA) Chung Ui-Hwa arrived in Hanoi on March 17 to begin his five-day visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

The guest was accompanied by parliamentarians from the Saenuri ruling party, including Park Dae Dong from the national policy committee; Park Seong Ho and Yi Wan Young from the committee of infrastructure and transport; and Yun Jae Ok from the committee of culture, education, sports, and tourism.

Vietnam and the RoK elevated their relationship to a strategic cooperative partnership in 2009 which has since reaped benefits in various fields, especially in trade and investment.

According to recent data from the RoK, the country became Vietnam 's largest foreign investor last year in terms of both capital value and number of projects.

Vietnam is a manufacturing hub for the RoK with more than 4,000 Korean firms, including big corporations such as Samsung Electronics, POSCO Steel, LG electronics, Hyundai Heavy Industries and SK Energy.

Bilateral trade reached 30.3 billion USD in 2014, making the RoK Vietnam's third-largest trading partner, after China and the US.-VNA
