Hanoi (VNA) – Unemployed rateof the Republic of Korea (RoK) slightly dropped in September, with the numberof newly-employed people increasing the strongest in four months, reportedYonhap News Agency.
According to the statistics agency of theRoK, the country’s unemployed rate stood at 3.4 percent in September, down 0.2percentage point compared to the same period last year and 0.2 percentage pointagainst the previous month.
The number of employed people hit 26.84million people in the month, a rise of 314,000 people year-on-year. This wasthe strongest growth of the figure since May 2017 with an increase of 375,000 employedpeople.
The unemployment rate among young Koreansaged from 15 to 29 was 9.2 percent, a year-on-year decline of 0.2 percentagepoint. The rate of young people with jobs in September remained stable at 42.6percent.
Nearly two million new jobs in constructionwere created last month thanks to favourable weather. Meanwhile, wholesale andretail firms in the RoK also generated 48,000 new jobs.
As many as 62,000 jobs were created inhealth care and social welfare, while manufacturing, which accounts for onefifth of the country’s jobs, provided additional 4.5 million jobs inSeptember.-VNA
