Round glutinous rice cake: Cultural delight of Pa Then ethnic group
“Banh giay” (round glutinous rice cake) is an indispensable dish on a Tet offering tray of the Pa Then ethnic people in Lam Binh district, Tuyen Quang province. The cakes are offered to ancestors and gods on the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year to pray for good weather, bumper crops, prosperity, and happiness.

A contest of making ‘Banh day’ (flat glutinous rice cake) within the framework of Culture and Sports Festival 2019 drew a large pool of visitors in Lai Chau province on September 22.
Banh Tet (cylinder glutinous rice cake) is a traditional cake enjoyed by southern Vietnamese people during the Lunar New Year. It is considered a variant of Banh Chung, a popular dish in the north.
Since early of the last day of the lunar year, crowds of people queue up at a shop famous for selling square glutinous rice cake, and pork paste in downtown Hanoi.
