Russian Ambassador impressed by Vietnam and its people

Outgoing Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Konstantin Vnukov has expressed his positive impression of Vietnam and its people and shared his assessment of the prospects for developing the partnership between the two countries in the time to come.

Hanoi (VNA) - Outgoing Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Konstantin Vnukov has expressed hispositive impression of Vietnam and its people and shared his assessment of theprospects for developing the partnership between the two countries in the timeto come.

In a recent interview with Russian news agencySputnik, the ambassador said that through meetings with Vietnamesefriends, he found that Vietnamese people have a deep solidarity with andfriendship towards Russia and its people, adding that the Russian languagecontinues to be popular in the country.

He was impressed with the inauguration of a statue of famousRussian poet Alexandre Sergeievich Pushkin at Hoa Binh Park in Hanoi.

During his tenure, Vietnam became the first country in the world to sign a freetrade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Trade ties between Russia and Vietnam saw fruitful growth last year despite theimpact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with two-way trade rising 15 percent to 5.7billion USD. Russia’s exports to Vietnam have been on the rise.

Bilateral relations have now expanded to new fields. The Russian side isseeking opportunities to export foodstuffs to Vietnam.

According to figures from Russian customs, two-way trade in January surged 46percent year-on-year, hitting 460 million USD.

Vnukov said joint venture companies between the two countries, such as the Vietnam - Russia oil and gas joint venture Vietsovpetro,the Vietnam - Russia Joint Venture Bank, and the Vietnam - Russia TropicalCentre, are operating effectively, contributing to promoting bilateralrelations.

He suggested the two countries continue their cooperation in oil and gasexploitation, renewable energy development, nuclear science and technology,healthcare, and biotechnology, expressing a belief that joint efforts by the twosides will bring effective cooperation in high-technology./.

National conference on provincial mergers scheduled

Currently, Vietnam has 10,035 commune-level administrative units, which will be consolidated into approximately 2,000 larger communes, each operating similarly to a small district. This restructuring is expected to begin immediately after the Party Central Committee's April meeting.

PM sets higher requirements for 500 kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen transmission line project

The 500 kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen transmission line is a strategic national infrastructure project approved by the Government, with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) as the investor. The double-circuit transmission line will span 229.5 kilometers, with 468 tower foundations across the four northern provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc. The total investment for the project is over 7.41 trillion VND (290.41 million USD).
