Russian school honoured for helping train Vietnamese

Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Bui Dinh Dinh on Feb. 5 presented the insignia “For the cause of Education” in Vietnam to the Russian Friendship of Peoples University (RUDN) and its 12 professors.

Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Dinh highlighted the support in education that the former Soviet Union, and the Russia of today, have provided Vietnam over the last 60 years.

During the time, universities in Russia have trained 52,000 Vietnamese students. At present, there are 63 Vietnamese students and scholars studying or doing research at the RUDN.

The ambassador said the insignia demonstrates Vietnam ’s recognition of Russian assistance and the thankfulness of the Party and State of Vietnam towards RUDN and its teaching staff for their contributions.

RUDN Principal Vladimir Filippov was among the awardees. He told the gathering that the university would join in with other institutes in Russia in providing professional training to developing countries, including Vietnam.

The ceremony was held within the framework of a workshop entitled “RUDN – 50 years of training officials for the world’s developing countries”./.
