HCM City (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) on November 5 held a get-together to mark the 102nd anniversary of the Russian October Revolution (November 7, 1917 – 2019).

Speaking at the gathering, Hoang Minh Nhan, President of the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association (VRFA) in Ho Chi Minh City, recalled the historical significance of the revolution.

The event had a special meaning to Vietnam’s development, he said, adding that it laid the foundation for the sound traditional friendship between Vietnam and Russia, which has been developed over time via high-level meetings and collaboration in all fields.

Nhan took the occasion to highlight his association’s commitment to preserving and developing these ties.

Alexey Vladimirovich Popov, Russian Consul General to HCM City, said the October Revolution marked the start of the solidarity and friendship between the Soviet Union and Vietnam, which was inherited and developed by Russia. The two countries’ current comprehensive strategic partnership is being fostered by their leaders and people across politics, the socio-economy, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Praising the municipal VRFA’s contributions to mutual understanding as well as traditional friendship and solidarity, he said the Consulate General wants to strengthen cooperation activities, particularly people-to-people exchanges, with the association./.
