The awareness shown by students for the country’s unique heritages has been significantly improved thanks to its inclusion as a subject in the school curriculum, a seminar in Hanoi heard on August 20.
The event, co-organised by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) and the UNESCO Office in Hanoi, reviewed the performance of heritage classes taught at schools over the past academic year as part of a pilot project.
It was reported that through various activities, including field trips to heritage sites, students’ pride in their country has risen remarkably, encouraging them to act to protect and uphold heritage values.
In addition to equipping students with more life skills, the project has also helped to improve the capacity of teachers, particularly in regards to their organisational skills.
Participants at the seminar proposed that school staff receive orientations for teaching children about heritage and why it should be protected.
Speaking at the event, MoET Deputy Minister Nguyen Vinh Hien asked schools to include the use of heritage into more subjects, such as literature and fine arts, and diversify teaching methods to draw students’ interest.-VNA
