The medal tally of the 29th SEA Games on August 23 (Photo: VNA) KualaLumpur (VNA) – Vietnam advanced to second place in the medal tally of the ongoing 29thSoutheast Asian (SEA) Games in Malaysia at the end of August 23, the fourth officialcompetition day.
Thespot was earned after Vietnam won 12 gold medals during the day, twice theexpected figure.
Thegold medals were in gymnastics, fencing, karate and athletics, bringing itstotal gold to 28. The country also pocketed a total 20 silver and 23 bronzemedals.
Thesame day, Vietnam women’s and men’s volleyball teams both secured their winagainst host Malaysia and Timor Leste, respectively.
Malaysiaremained on top of the tally with 50 gold, 37 silver and 32 bronze medals.
Cambodiawas at the bottom of the list with 5 bronze medals, while Timor Leste was yetto seize any medal.
Vietnamsent more than 470 athletes to compete at the Games from August 19-30. They arescheduled to take part in 32 out of 38 sports and set to bring home 49-59 goldmedals to rank in the top three.-VNA
