Vientiane (VNA) – Khamphanh Pheuyavong, Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, has assessed that the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has followed a correct political guideline and its reform work has so far reaped remarkable outcomes across various sectors.
Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)’s resident reporters in Vientiane, Khamphanh, who is also Chairman of the LPRP Central Committee’s Commission for Propaganda and Training, and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, underscored the stability of Vietnam’s political system, crediting the CPV as the cornerstone in uniting and mobilising the people. He also acknowledged the Vietnamese Party’s growing influence in the regional and global arenas.
According to the official, over nearly four decades of Doi Moi (Renewal), Vietnam has transitioned from a poor, resource-dependent economy with a centralised planning mechanism to a socialist-oriented market economy. The country has achieved historic development milestones, and its international position and reputation have been significantly elevated.
Vietnam now ranks as the fourth-largest economy within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the 32nd in the world. Its 2024 per capita GDP is projected to near 5,000 USD, placing the country among the upper-middle-income developing nations.
On the cultural aspect, Khamphanh said Vietnam’s dual focus on embracing modern cultural values and preserving traditional heritage has made it a magnet for both domestic and foreign tourists.
Vietnam’s social achievements over 40 years of renewal are striking, with the national poverty rate dropping to 2.93%, he said, adding that the country is also concentrating on the development of education, nutrition, and high-quality human resources.
In science and technology, the official said Vietnam has made significant strides, particularly in digital transformation and innovation.
He noted that Vietnam has established diplomatic ties with 194 countries and maintained relations with 247 political parties in 111 nations, with its National Assembly collaborating with over 140 legislative bodies globally and actively participating in numerous major international parliamentary forums and 1,200 international organisations.
The Lao Party official concluded by affirming that Vietnam’s achievements are a testament to the visionary and sound leadership of the CPV./.
