Shares rebound on eased selling pressure

On the HCM City Exchange, the VN-Index advanced 0.72 percent to 505.67 points.

Cashflow returned to the blue chips on December 17 with 19 of the southernbourse's 30 largest stocks by capitalisation and liquidity adding value,however, caution remained.

The VN30-Index, composed of the 30 largest shares, edged up 0.89 percent to 565.94 points.

Onlytwo stocks decreased on December 17, including Vietinbank (CTG) andlogistics company Gemardebt (GMD), which each lost 100 VND (0.0049 USD)per share. Meanwhile, real estate giant Vingroup (VIC) rose 2,500 VND(0.11 USD) per share on December 17 to 70,000 VND (3.33 USD).

PetroVietnamLow Pressure Gas Distribution (PGD) and PetroVietnam Drilling (PVD)increased 3.6 percent to 37,400 VND (1.7 USD) per share and 2.5 percentto 61,500 VND (2.9 USD) per share, respectively.

Otheradvancers earned between 100 VND (0.0049 USD) to 600 VND (0.028 USD) pershare, including Bao Viet Group (BVH), Hoa Sen Group (HSG), Hoa PhatGroup (HPG), Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG), Masan Group (MSN), Vietcombank(VCB) and Ocean Group (OGC). Of note, the recovery of blue chips onDecember 17 was linked to net buying from the foreign investors.

Also,small caps were active on December 17 with FLC Group (FLC) leading thebourse, in terms of liquidity, with nearly 8 million shares traded.

Overall,148 stocks increased, in comparison to 57 losing. More than 73.599changed hands on the southern bourse on December 17, with a total valueof 929.5 billion VND (44.26 million USD).

On the HanoiExchange, the HNX-Index was up 0.56 percent to 66.86 points and theHNXFF-Index, which is composed of stocks with a minimum free-float rateof 5 percent, closed at 67.01 points, 0.7 percent higher than theDecember 16 session.

The bourse's total value reached 344 billion VND (16.38 million USD) on the exchange of 43.1 million shares.

The HNX30-Index, composed of the capital city's top shares, gained 0.85 percent to 126.75 points.

Accordingto FPT Securities, investors were showing caution about informationregarding the restructuring of exchange traded funds (ETFs) this week,as these funds deleted holdings of many securities from their lists.Investors were also expecting business results at the end of the year.

Stockanalysts at Bao Viet Securities forecast that buying and selling ofETFs would be strong on one or two of the final trading sessions of theweek.-VNA

Hanoi puts 28 more electric buses into operation

The new VinFast Green Bus vehicles, manufactured in 2026, have a capacity of 60 passengers. They are equipped with low floors for easier boarding, facilities for people with disabilities, air conditioning and other modern amenities to improve passengers’ comfort and travel experience.

500-day campaign brings fallen soldiers closer to home

Information provided by local residents in Son La province helped authorities find the remains of two fallen soldiers after four days of searching. At Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City, 701 sets of remains and 304 sets of personal items have been recovered, while in Ca Mau province, more than 3,000 unidentified graves have been excavated and biological samples collected.

The gold medalists were Nguyen Tuan Kiet from Nguyen Hue High School for Gifted Students; Le Gia Hong Minh from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; Le Ba Tuan Viet from the High School for Gifted Students under the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Le Quang Tri from the High School for the Gifted under Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City; and Nguyen Quang Dung and Mai Van Khanh from Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa province.

Vietnam, Japan promote exchanges on law and justice

Speaking at the working session, Chief Judge of the People’s Court of Hanoi - Region 2 Hoang Ngoc Thanh said the meeting provided an opportunity for the two sides to share practical experience in judicial activities, thereby enhancing mutual understanding of the laws and practices governing the settlement of IP-related cases in Vietnam and Japan.
