Mexico (VNA) – Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam is on a five-day visit to Mexico from June 7, aiming at boosting bilateral cooperation.
This is the first state visit by a Singaporean president to a Latin American nation.
According to a statement released by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Tony Tan will meet Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on June 10 to discuss measures to boost political dialogues, development cooperation and bilateral trade exchange.
The Singaporean president will also participate in a series of economic and cultural events, including the Mexico-Singapore Business Forum to be held on June 9.
Singapore and Mexico established diplomatic ties on December 22, 1975.
The Southeast Asian country is currently the third largest of Mexico ’s Asian-Pacific investors and ranks 18 th in global terms.
From 1999 to 2015, Singaporean businesses poured 1.6 billion USD into Mexico , mainly in energy, electronics, construction and hotels.-VNA
