The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) should review policies and plans in order to create a favourable legal framework for the rapid and sustainable development of the information and communication sector.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the request while attending the ministry’s meeting to deploy tasks for 2010 in Hanoi on January 15.

He also urged the ministry to urgently complete a project to develop Vietnam into a strong nation in IT and communication to submit to the government for approval. The scheme should focus on building favourable mechanisms for human resource and IT infrastructure development.

In addition, there should be plans for the application of IT to State management and the formation of strong groups for the sector.

The Government leader praised the whole sector’s efforts in maintaining growth and modernising IT and communication infrastructure.

The building of institutions, laws, and policies has much improved, helping create a favourable environment for information and communication activities and raise the effectiveness of state management, he said, adding that the press and publishing have played a major role in raising the public’s awareness about measures to curb inflation, stabilise the macro economy, maintain the growth and ensure social security.

PM Dung asked the MIC to continue coordinating with the press to provide full and timely information on the Party and State’s policies as well as counter wrong opinions.

The MIC has set several groups of solutions for 2010, including speeding up the building of projects, draft laws and legal documents and the implementation of IT application and e-government, further strengthening state management on press and publishing work as well as boosting human resource development./.
