Beijing (VNA) – A new road-rail freight transportation route officially opened on September 28, delivering international cargo from Southeast Asia to Europe via China’s Chongqing city.

On the day, more than 10,000 items of clothing produced in Vietnam and transported to Chongqing were loaded onto a train bound for Duisburg, Germany.

This is the first time Chongqing has integrated road freight with Europe-bound railway services. The route takes just 20 days, about 20 less than shipping routes.

Chongqing began regular road freight services to Southeast Asian countries in April last year, exporting auto spare parts and importing fruit, rice and wood.

Chongqing authorities said the municipality will have three road freight routes to Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar. The Chongqing-Vietnam and Chongqing-Thai routes are already in service while Chongqing-Yangon (Myanmar) via Yunnan province is under construction.-VNA
