HCM City (VNA) – The subcommitteein charge of economic-social affairs for the 13th National PartyCongress has requested localities in the southern key economic region to assesstheir socio-economic development in the past five years and makerecommendations on the directions and tasks for the next five and 10 years and a vision to 2045.
Head of the subcommittee, Politburo memberand Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the order at a working session on May7 in HCM City with officials of the city and a number of provinces in thesouthern key economic region.
The PM required the localities to analysethe prominent results in their socio-economic situation along with existingproblems and shortcomings, with a focus on new development models, bottlenecksand main issues that need prompt solutions.
PM Phuc particularly asked HCM City to clarifyhow it will work to maintain its role as the country’s biggest economic hub.
He underlined the important role of HCMCity and the southern key economic region as the locomotive of the nationaleconomy, citing statistics that the region’s productivity is 1.8 times thenational productivity and its per capital GDP is 1.75 times the nationalaverage.
The PM singled out infrastructureconnectivity as a major bottleneck in the region’s development. He also remindedthe southern localities to pay more attention to growth quality.
The reports and recommendations submittedby the localities will serve as reference for the subcommittee to build thedraft reports on a 10-year socio-economic development strategy for 2021-2030and a five-year socio-economic development plan for 2021-2025.-VNA
