HCM City (VNA) – The subcommittee in charge of economic-social affairs for the 13th National Party Congress has requested localities in the southern key economic region to assess their socio-economic development in the past five years and make recommendations on the directions and tasks for the next five and 10 years and a vision to 2045.

Head of the subcommittee, Politburo member and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the order at a working session on May 7 in HCM City with officials of the city and a number of provinces in the southern key economic region.

The PM required the localities to analyse the prominent results in their socio-economic situation along with existing problems and shortcomings, with a focus on new development models, bottlenecks and main issues that need prompt solutions.

PM Phuc particularly asked HCM City to clarify how it will work to maintain its role as the country’s biggest economic hub.

He underlined the important role of HCM City and the southern key economic region as the locomotive of the national economy, citing statistics that the region’s productivity is 1.8 times the national productivity and its per capital GDP is 1.75 times the national average.

The PM singled out infrastructure connectivity as a major bottleneck in the region’s development. He also reminded the southern localities to pay more attention to growth quality.

The reports and recommendations submitted by the localities will serve as reference for the subcommittee to build the draft reports on a 10-year socio-economic development strategy for 2021-2030 and a five-year socio-economic development plan for 2021-2025.-VNA
