Deputy Defence Minister Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh received a delegation of Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian war veterans who had helped Vietnam during the US-resistance war in Hanoi on August 23.
At the reception, Vinh highlighted the wholehearted and effective assistance of the former Soviet Union and socialist countries for Vietnam during its struggle for national independence.
Russia , Ukraine and Belarus sent thousands of military experts and advisors to Vietnam , contributing to the Vietnamese people’s success in the US-resistance war, he noted.
He affirmed that the Vietnamese armed forces and people always treasures the fine sentiments and effective assistance offered by these countries.
The visit was a chance for the war veterans to witness with their own eyes the national construction and defence achievements of the Vietnamese people, Vinh said.
He expressed wish that the guests will continue to share their valuable fighting experiences with Vietnamese military officials and help strengthen mutual understanding, traditional friendship and cooperation among the people and armies of the three countries.
For their part, the Soviet war veterans said they wish the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, would harvest greater achievements in their path to building prosperous Vietnam./.
