Hanoi (VNA) - Chairman of the State Duma of the FederalAssembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Viktorovich Volodin concluded histwo-day official visit to Vietnam on December 24.

While in Vietnam, Volodin held talks with National Assembly (NA) ChairwomanNguyen Thi Kim Ngan. He also paid a courtesy visit to General Secretary of theCommunist Party of Vietnam and President Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime MinisterNguyen Xuan Phuc.

At the meetings, the leaders stressed that the visit is of importantsignificance and continues a series of high-ranking delegation exchangesbetween Vietnam and Russia, aiming to foster the bilateral extensivecooperation, and marking a new step of development in the Vietnam-Russia comprehensivepartnership.

They discussed cooperation contents between the two countries and theirlaw-making bodies. They reviewed growing parliamentary ties, which have seen theregular exchange of all-level delegations, mutual coordination, support andconsultation at multilateral parliamentary forums in the region and in theworld.

In their capacity, the NA of Vietnam and the State Duma will spare noeffort in assisting Vietnam-Russia collaboration in all fields, creatingfavorable legal frameworks to promote bilateral economy-trade, investment,tourism and people-to-people exchange at all levels, particularly betweenVietnamese and Russian localities.

Volodin stated Russia is willing to provide Vietnam with more scholarshipsto train high-school Russian language teachers, in addition to 1,000scholarships granted to Vietnamese students.

A highlight of the visit is the signing of an agreement on theestablishment of an inter-parliamentary cooperation committee between the NA ofVietnam and the State Duma. It is the first time the NA had set up such a collaborationmechanism with a foreign legislative body, which reflected political trustbetween the two nations’ high-ranking leaders and determination to enhance parliamentarycooperation.

On the occasion, the State Duma delegation laid a wreath at theMonument for Martyrs, paid tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh at hismausoleum, and visited the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site in Hanoi.-VNA
