State President Nguyen Minh Triet has praised cooperation between two capitals--Hanoi and the Swiss city of Bern--in economy, urban planning and management, environmental protection, tourism and sports.
President Triet delivered the commendation on April 20 while receiving the Mayor of Bern, Alexandre Tschaeppaet, who is on a working visit as a guest of the Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao.
The leader applauded Tschaeppaet’s visit and said that he was delighted at the fine development of friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and Switzerland, as well as between their localities.
Tschaeppaet briefed his host on his earlier working session with Hanoi’s leaders, saying that Switzerland and Vietnam, including their capitals, share various historical and cultural similarities.
The people of Switzerland, particularly those in Bern, are looking forward to President Triet’s visit to the European country scheduled for mid May, he said.
The Mayor stressed that Bern is willing to share experiences with and assist Hanoi in dealing with emerging issues in urban management and other matters related to a developing city./.
