Steering committee on smuggling prevention sets out tasks

Hanoi (VNA) – The National Steering
Committee for Anti-smuggling, Counterfeit Goods and Trade Fraud (National Steering
Committee 389) convened a meeting in Hanoi on October 14 to review its activities
in the third quarter and set out tasks for the fourth quarter.
Speaking
at the event, Chief of the Standing Office of the committee Le Thanh Hai said in
the past nine months, prices of goods were basically stable. Online sales and express delivery and postal services were mostly chosen during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Smuggling, counterfeits and trade frauds remained complicated in several key areas, especially in the production
of medical supplies and equipment for the fight against the pandemic. As of the end of September, competent agencies nationwide authorities discovered over
100,000 violation cases, seized over 7.5 trillion VND for the State budget,
and launched criminal proceedings against 2,148 persons in 1,615 cases.
In his conclusion,
permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh acknowledged achievements in the
fight against smuggling, trade frauds and counterfeits in the past nine months.
He pointed out loose
management in localities as a serious issue that needs to be fixed in the near
future.

Minh suggested agencies
and units seriously follow the Politburo’s decrees, resolutions and
conclusions, including upholding responsibility of leaders for the discovery
and strict punishment of violations.
Between
now and the year’s end, authorities must enhance inspection to promptly deal
with smuggling and trade frauds, especially those related to people's health like
medical supplies, as well as stockpile goods to prepare for the Lunar New Year,
he said./.
