Chairman of the Hoang Sa district People’s Committee Vo Cong Chanh has expressed his strong indignation about China's inhumane action when they inspected the damaged fishing boat DNa 90152 from Da Nang's Thanh Khe district which was sunk by a Chinese ship on May 26, a local newspaper reported.
The Da Nang Today Online quoted Chanh as saying that he would ask for permission from the municipal authorities as well as negotiate with the owner of the fishing boat to have the vessel sent to the Hoang Sa Exhibition House for display instead of being repaired.
He added that the boat would be realistic and convincing evidence which will help domestic and foreign visitors understand more about the brave and heroic spirit of Vietnamese fishermen, as well as China’s inhumane action.
Chairman of the Da Nang Fishery Association Tran Van Linh promised that his association would help the family of the owner of the boat complete legal procedures to sue the Chinese side for its deliberate attack.
Huynh Thi Nhu Hoa, owner of the boat, said that she and local relevant agencies would ask China to compensate her for the damage.
At the beginning of May 2014, China illegally dispatched Haiyang Shiyou-981 oil rig as well as a large fleet of armed vessels, military ships and aircraft to Vietnam’s waters and positioned the rig at 15 degrees 29 minutes 58 seconds north latitude and 111 degrees 12 minutes 6 seconds east longitude. The location is 80 miles deep inside Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone.
China’s armed vessels aggressively fired high-power water cannons at and intentionally rammed against Vietnamese public-service and civil ships, causing damage to many boats and injuring many people on board.
Chinese ships have continuously encircled, constrained and driven away Vietnamese fishing boats and even injured Vietnamese fishermen, threatening their lives.
On May 27, China moved the rig to 15 degrees 33 minutes 22 seconds north latitude and 111 degrees 34 minutes 36 seconds east longitude, 25 nautical miles from Tri Ton Island in Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago and 23 nautical miles east-northeast from the old location.
On June 3, the oil rig moved yet again to another new position, at 15 degrees 33 minutes 36 seconds north latitude and 111 degrees 34 minutes 11 seconds east longitude. The new position is still completely within Vietnam’s continental shelf.-VNA
