Swensen’s to open franchised outlets in Vietnam

General Manager of Swensen’s ( Thailand ) Peter King said his company has set its five-year plan to open 80 restaurants in India , 30 in Vietnam and about three in Laos .

The first franchised outlets of Swensen’s will open in Bangalore , India , in April and Ho Chi Minh City , Vietnam , in May, he added.

According to the Swensen’s leader, the overseas expansion is in line with the strategy set by the parent company to grow internationally and to be a global food company.

Swensen’s plans to open franchised stores in at least two new markets every year, focusing on Southeast Asia first, King said, adding that the company has been in Thailand for 24 years and now owns over 220 outlets in the country, with nearly half of the stores being franchised.

The company will open 10 restaurants in Thailand this year, five of them company-owned stores and five franchised outlets while upgrading its 20 existing stores in Bangkok .

Swensen’s has set a target of attaining a growth of 8-9 percent in 2010 compared to 6-8 percent in the previous year through efforts to improve the quality of its products and staff’s serving capacity, he said./.
