The Joint Statement on the Technology Connectivity Strategy issued after the first Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue reaffirmed the shared interest in deepening cooperation in science and technology, innovation, connectivity and the digital economy. The two sides shared a vision of making Vietnam and Singapore leading strategic technology partners in Southeast Asia, with both countries becoming more technologically self-reliant through cooperation and connectivity.

On the back of high political trust and economic complementarity, Vietnamese and Singaporean agencies, localities, and companies are expected to develop new cooperation models, products, and values that deliver practical benefits to both countries, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung.

Member of the Political Bureau and Permanent Member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Tran Cam Tu pays an official visit to Singapore and co-chairs the first Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue between the CPV and the People’s Action Party of Singapore from August 24–25.

Politburo member and Standing Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu proposed that the two sides promote parliamentary cooperation and make effective use of existing mechanisms to help implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and deepen substantive cooperation across a wide range of areas.

The visit marks several first milestones, as it is the first official visit to Singapore by a Permanent Member of the CPV Central Committee’s Secretariat. It is also the first meeting of the Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue mechanism, which the two countries' leaders agreed to establish during the state visit to Singapore by General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and President To Lam in May.

As complementary economies, Vietnam and Singapore have promoted the implementation of trade agreements to strengthen bilateral economic ties. Both members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the two countries have effectively tapped the benefits offered by these free trade agreements.
