Speaking at the event, attended by many people from different walksof life, Major General Le Van Cuong, former head of the Strategy andScience Institute under the Ministry of Public Security, elaborated onissues related to China’s illegal placement of the Haiyang Shiyou-981drilling rig deep inside Vietnam’s waters.

Healso raised several hypotheses on the plans and moves of the ChineseGovernment from now to August 15, and provided participants withinformation about Vietnam’s policies of solving the current tensions aswell as the international community’s backing for Vietnam.

The talk aimed to raise public awareness of the East Sea situation,contributing to increasing patriotism, solidarity and responsibilityamong Vietnamese people, particularly the youth, in the struggle tosafeguard the country’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and TruongSa (Spratly) archipelagoes.

At the beginning ofMay, China illegally dispatched the rig as well as a large fleet ofarmed vessels, military ships and aircraft to Vietnam’s waters andpositioned the rig at 15 degrees 29 minutes 58 seconds north latitudeand 111 degrees 12 minutes 06 seconds east longitude, 80 miles deepinside Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone.

Despite Vietnam’s protest, China expanded itsscale of operation and moved the rig to 15 degrees 33 minutes 36seconds north latitude and 111 degrees 34 minutes 11 seconds eastlongitude, 60 nautical miles deep inside Vietnam’s continental shelf andexclusive economic zone.

China’s armed vessels have aggressively and consistently firedhigh-power water cannons at and intentionally rammed against Vietnamesepublic-service and civil ships, causing damage to many boats andinjuring people on board.-VNA

Phu Quoc launches English classes for vendors, drivers ahead of APEC 2027

Under the project “Enhancing foreign language capacity for the community in the 2026–30 period, with a vision to 2045”, recently announced by the Phu Quoc Special Zone authorities, English programmes will be piloted at 10-15 schools across all three education levels from September 2026 to June 2027.

An Giang takes zero-tolerance approach to IUU fishing

Alongside the continued implementation of comprehensive anti-IUU fishing measures, An Giang has proposed that the Government promptly introduce policies to support fishermen in switching livelihoods and decommissioning nearshore fishing vessels in order to conserve natural fisheries resources.

Singer, media executive charged over YouTube music copyright infringement

The Investigation Police Agency under the municipal Public Security Department said on August 5 that it had prosecuted and placed in temporary detention Nguyen Thi Hien, owner of the YouTube channel Phuong Diem Huyen, and Nguyen Thanh Hiep, Director of Unicorn Vietnam Media and Entertainment Co., Ltd., for investigation on the charge of infringing copyright and related rights under Article 225 of Vietnam's Penal Code.

Vietnamese students shine at AIMO 2026 international finals

The Vietnamese team won one Champion title, four First Runner-up awards, three Second Runner-up awards, 42 gold medals, 83 silver medals, 70 bronze medals and two consolation prizes at the 2026 International Finals of the Asia International Mathematical Olympiad Open Contest (AIMO) held in Hanoi on August 2-5.
