Thai Binh village preserves silver engraving craft

With nearly six centuries of history, Dong Xam silver engraving village in Kien Xuong district stands as a symbol of Thai Binh's traditional craftsmanship, renowned for its intricate designs. Despite modern challenges, local artisans work tirelessly to preserve the legacy of the "Dong Xam silver engraving" brand.

Artisan Dinh Quang Thang is the fourth generation in his family to practice the silver engraving craft in Hong Thai commune. After serving in the military service, he returned to his homeland to passionately continue the family tradition, keeping the silver engraving craft alive with dedication and love.

Creating a complete silver engraving product involves 10 steps, with engraving being the most difficult and crucial for its intricacy. Dong Xam silver products stand out for their unique shapes, balanced decorative patterns, and the expert use of light and dark effects, utilizing the reflective properties of silver.

Hong Thai commune currently has nearly 160 production units, providing stable employment for over 2,000 workers. Dong Xam silver carving has maintained its position in the market and remains a major source of income, contributing over 60% of the local production value.

In 2010, Dong Xam silver craft village was recognized as one of the 12 exemplary craft villages in Vietnam. Originating in Hong Thai commune, the craft has expanded to neighboring areas, attracting thousands of young artisans and training skilled jewelers nationwide.
