A conference was held in Thai Nguyen province to promote development cooperation between the province and foreign non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in 2011.
The conference, jointly held by the provincial People’s Committee and the Committee for Foreign NGO Affairs, drew the participation of representatives from 20 NGOs in Vietnam .
On the occasion, the provincial Department of External Affairs signed five memoranda of understanding with four NGOs and launched three aid commitments worth billions of VND for programmes on children and environmental hygiene.
Thai Nguyen province presented certificates of merit to 12 organisations and 14 individuals who had made active contributions to foreign non-governmental aid work.
Thai Nguyen has so far established relations with 56 NGOs, including Plan in Vietnam , Allianz-Mission, Ford Foundation, and John Hopkins.
The size and value of programmes and projects funded by NGOs have continuously increased, from 26 projects worth 3.1 million USD in 2007 to 41 projects worth over 5.1 million USD in 2010./.
