Hanoi (VNA) - Thailand's Cabinet on March 27 approved a project building a 220-kilometer high speed train network which will connect three main international airports of Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang and U-Tapao.

The project will be carried out at the budget of 200 billion baht (6.4 billion USD).

Nattaporn Jatusripitak, an adviser to the Prime Minister's Office, said the investment will be in the form of a public-private partnership, allowing the private sector to engage in the project in cooperation with government agencies that are in charge of it.

The rail project is part of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), the Thai government's flagship project for the development of infrastructure in Thailand's eastern seaboard, covering Rayong, Chachoengsao and Chonburi provinces.

The Cabinet also decided to include the areas surrounding Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports in the EEC for further economic development. - VNA
