Thailand becomes world’s No 1 exporter of sweet corns

Thailand has become the world’s number one exporter of sweet corns and related products for 10 consecutive years, said the Department of Foreign Trade.

Thailand has become the world’s number oneexporter of sweet corns and related products for 10 consecutive years, said theDepartment of Foreign Trade.

The Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade, Adul Chotinisakorn,said exports of sweet corns and related products during the first 11 months of2018 amounted to 236,775 tonnes, an increase of 6.7 percent, worth 7.32 billionbaht, up by 2.2 percent, with the highest number of exports to Japan, followedby the Republic of Korea and Taiwan.

As a result, Thailand has become the world’s number one exporter of sweet cornsand related products for 10 consecutive years because the country has thepotential to produce quality sweet corns with a good taste as well as todevelop the corn strains.

The climate of Thailand is also suitable for growing sweet corns. - NNT/VNA
