Thailand’s Department of Rural Roads has taken the initiative to support investment atmosphere in special economic zones (SEZ) by developing rural road networks nationwide.

Director-General Daroon Saengchai said the department has drawn up 17 projects with a total investment of 8.68 billion THB (nearly 266 million USD) to facilitate easier access to the special economic zones. The projects can be divided into road construction that is directly connected with the zones and the ones that support future trade and investment expansion of the SEZ.

The Department also unveiled projects to renovate 25 roads leading to various special economic zones.

So far the Thai government has designated special economic zones in 10 border provinces of Tak, Sakaeo, Trat, Mukdahan, Nong Khai, Songkhla, Kanjanaburi, Chiang Rai, Nakhon Phanom and Narathiwat.-VNA
